Katie E. Ho, LCPC, NCC

My style of therapy is relational, anti-oppressive, decolonial, and justice-oriented. I operate from the same lens in which I live - towards liberation. Because therapy starts with connection, I deeply value transparency and alignment of energy, values, and understanding. The relationship we create is sacred and I will always honor + trust your intuition, direction of curiosity and needs. In this work, we will examine how your own personal family/structural systems impacted your experiences, as well as how larger systems of oppression, racism and class contribute to our collective harm, and how to access the universal goal of liberation. None of us are free until we’re all free.

I am a biracial and second generation Chinese-American, who grew up on the land of the Caddo & Yatasi Tribes, modern day northwest Louisiana. The experience and biological need for a sense of belonging has always been a part of both my personal journey, as well as professional. As a therapist, I work to see you as whole - beyond your symptoms and into your unique experience within larger systems and how this impacts your self-image and belonging to community. I practice through the inherent belief and IFS model that there are ‘no bad parts’ to us, but parts yearning to be unburdened.

“We’re all just walking each other home.” - Ram Dass

Therapy is just one of many ways in which we heal - we all possess the wisdom and clarity needed for growth. Our therapy space can be one of the places where we build a strong and authentic sense of self, equipped with nurturing curiosity and connection with mind + body.

I see clients of all genders, sexual orientations, religions, races, ethnicities and identities. Hate has no home in my office, my heart, or in my work, and I unequivocally believe that all Black lives matter, and stand for a Free Palestine. I am committed to doing the lifelong work in creating a space that is anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and safe for all experiences to be explored. I currently practice on the traditional homelands of the Anishinaabe, or the Council of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations, known today as Chicago, IL.

Treatment Focus:

I am Level 1 Trained in IFS (Internal Family Systems). The methods and strategies I use in session are a blend of modern evidence-based practices, holistic and ancestral, and sharing these skills and their roots is a big part of my style. While we will explore the rich and complex inner workings of your parts and system, and how your Self Energy can offer healing, my job is simply a facilitator. I take an active and direct approach in the therapy space, both in listening and sharing. My goal is to build a relationship in the room so that we can build relationships within ourselves. Through trust, humor, gentle challenges and even celebration - there is growth and discovery.

Each client-therapist relationship is grounded in alliance and trust, which allows you to identify and resolve issues through collaboration, repair and build lasting connections, or overcome emotional burdens by tracing their roots and origins. I work to empower my clients’ intrinsic ability to use their resilience and insight to live more peaceful and balanced lives.

Session structure and length of treatment are based around every therapist’s favorite answer: it depends. I work with each client based off of their individual needs and goals to determine how our work together will look. This is done with your participation and consent!

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with the state of Illinois, a National Certified Counselor and a professional member of the Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA).
